I'm not sure if I already asked this (maybe in a dream), but can someone clarify if it's just an illusion or if we actually get what we press the button on?

Nope, just crons that's it. If there's crons, that's what you are getting.

But on the real, the pressing of the SPACE bar is just a placebo.

I've been playing since 2016, what I do is just scroll to the bottom of the description and check to see what's the shittiest item on there and that's what I get regardless of when I hit space bar.

haha. Well I used to have pretty good reaction time and I can at least see the colors and the upgrade levels, and yea it seems like I get nothing near what I pressed on. That's pretty lame in a way. They should just have it roll then stop if it's the case. I missed a tri tungbelt by 1 and I was like aiye. but I've been lucky avoiding crons. Only done some snowmen and various other loyalty boxes tho. Haven't farmed many rift bosses cuz I didn't have much luck with their drops.

The animation is fluff. There are probabilities for each result, and when you press your spacebar, the server rolls on the table of rewards. Then your client plays a little animation to show you what you get. It isn't a game of dexterity or reflexes, it's a randomly generated result.

It's more likely than not fake/placebo, which is annoying because I'd rather just see what it's giving me rather than wait for the stupid wheel to finish. My evidence for this is BSA's random item tiles, where you can just look in the Black Spirit Safe to see what it is ahead of time. Just another pointless animation I wish could be fully skipped.

Everything in this game is carefully built around the usage of our time, how to waste it and how to remedy the wasted time. It's like a constant "push" to make you anxious on how a task takes up your time in order to push your ass into the pearl shop.

Tired of getting **** from those slot machines? Go full cron mode and melt outfits or buy artisans.

Yes you do, but you must take into consideration your game lag. If you were 1 ping it would be very close to being correct.

I have a lot of success in anticipating where the crons are and very successful. 1 out of 10 rolls are crons for me.

Well the animation of box rewards isn't really to waste your time, but rather to simulate the thrill of a slot machine. It looks like one, and there's a reason for that.

This is true because if you look in your black spirit chest on the board spins while the wheel is still going your item is already there. I would guess that it is already decided what you are getting when you get the Shakatu boxes as well and it will be any if the least valuable items.

You can actually look in the safe and see the resulting loot before the die even hits the board.

While I can't speak for you or anyone else, I find no thrill in the slot machine design of these lootboxes, and as pointed out earlier, your result is clearly decided from the moment you press it anyways, rendering the wait on the rolling pointless. It is, regardless of whether they intended it or not, a waste of time, however little it may take. And with all the other design decisions that also have no real purpose other than to waste time and slow progress, I am left to assume, even without much if any proof that this slot machine UI for the lootboxes is calculated as well...to the players' detriment.

Correct. I should've clarified to say that as well.

Because it's not subtle and you saw behind it. But it's really done for that, and you can see in this thread that it works on some gullible people. You have to remember that the CEO of PA loves Casinos. This kind of stuff speaks to him, and it's more than likely he wants to reproduce it in the game.
If it was really aimed at wasting your time, you couldn't press spacebar again to skip the animation.

About that...some of them can be skipped, others cannot.

That's just because they can't finish anything they start. It's not new. I really don't think it's intended.

The animation you see has nothing to do with the code behind it. As soon as you press SPACE the item is rolled and then the animation will simply place that item at the point where it stops.
It's not like there is an actual list of items in the background cycling through and you get the item you press SPACE at.

just as mentioned before, the animation is just that, and its there because some psychological techniques applied to marketing indicate that if there an animation looks like a mini game of some sort there is a psychological factor that makes our brain associate it with "fun" wich is why you can see shiny, colourfull animations in most games that sell gambling based lootboxes.

The wheel is an illusion. Sometimes it slows downs faster. It always stops on trash on purpose.
