Prize Fish List and Prize Fish Location List are further below for quick reference.

    Introduction

This is a guide to the prize fish species added with the mastery update on 04 September 2019 in EU/NA and other regions, following the launch in South Korea on 12 October 2018.

These new fish species are referred to variously as -Prize Catch on the tooltip, Orange grade fish in the patch notes and in KR as treasure fish. Generally they are normally referred to as prize fish which I use here.

Obtaining information on the actual locations where a player can find specific prize fish species is not available officially as with all other fish species and is generally found via player reporting. Sadly there is no complete location guide available that I have found and mostly only individual species reports on KR forums, which makes it harder to confirm them.

The locations provided below come from various sources, each of which have varying levels of confidence but should indicate actual locations on the live version with the usual proviso that the developer can and has done several times even recently, change the fish tables. So treat this as a guide only but as more locations are reported and confirmed they the list will be updated to give a more complete reference. Check the location list for more details.

Note on Fishing mastery and drop chance % for prize fish species

Be aware that the drop rate % chance provided in the Life Skill Mastery Patch notes posted with launch in our region on 04 September 2019 will not reflect the actual drop rate players will find in actual fishing.

This is becuase, I believe, they represent the chance for the game rolling a prize fish group within the fish table, then rolling for each of the potential prize fish species included in that table. It may also include the additional relic chance roll too. So the player will not see say at maximum mastery, 5% of prize fish in their inventory at the end of a passive fishing session (maximum inventory say) but rather maybe one or two prize fish or non.

I also beleive that the % chance for a prize fish will be ramped so that lower value prize fish will drop more often, say Corvina (1M) on Velia Beach I was catching one every full inventory or so. But for Pirarucu (15M) I fished Heidel for a solid week on the Global Lab, with over 3K fish and did not catch one (I caught a Golden Albicore).

Add to this that mastery is expensive to gain beyond out passive mastery from fishing level, gaining higher % will take a large investment and time. This means that at least initially even for a Guru20 with 500 mastery it is a 1.3% chance. Even on Global Lab with 2-5 - 3.0 % drop rate when testing the Piraruca, rng will play a large part in what a fisher will actually see.

The upside is that even a player using a casual alt with small inventory, with the new auto-trash options especially, they can always have a chance, even small, to catch them. Plus the increased relic drop rate. For active fishing or harpooning there is more incentive to gain higher mastery.

    Prize fish species list

    Saltwater

    Fishing
    Albino Coelacanth (3,500,000)
    Black Eye Crab (5,000,000)
    Blue Bat Star (2,000,000)
    Corvina (1,000,000)
    Footballfish (10,000,000)
    Golden Albacore (8,000,000)
    Golden Sea Bass (3,000,000)
    White Grouper (5,000,000)

    Harpoon
    Black Spotted Dolphin (10,000,000)
    Giant Black Squid (50,000,000)*
    Requiem Shark (75,000,000)*
    Ghost Whale (100,000,000)*

    Freshwater

    Pirarucu (15,000,000)

    Note
    Base sell price given.
The three top value species, Giant Black Squid, Requiem Shark and Ghost Whale are now vendor items sold at the base sell price to NPCs and not tradable*.
At least one of the saltwater species has also been used in freshwater and probably more. The groups are their normal waters.
Pirarucu tooltip states it is a freshwater species. Actual Pirarucu lives in the Amazon Basin in freshwater.

    Prize fish locations

    Introduction

Generally the prize fish will be included in the waters fish table as a separate group and should be available anywhere within that sea/ region. From testing and reports this appears true with a few exceptions yet to be confirmed:
In Saltwater sea areas prize fish appear to be available anywhere in that sea zone. In Margoria we have the three sparate zones plus Ross, Juur and Vadabin seas. Freshwater appears different.

The exception may be Ghost Whale which was been tweaked several times in KR with some different suggested locations. It may be available across Margoria (Middle) or as some reports suggested, in more specific locations within it. Until reports are made it is not possible to be sure.

In Freshwater it seems that the prize fish are in specifc locations rather than region-wide like other fish, for example Piraruca appears only available within the Heidel city safe zone waters and not across Serendia; Golden Albacore may becaught in Atanise Pond perhaps but not across Kamasylvia. Again all this needs confirming from testing and reports.

I have not found any reports of prize fish being caught from fish spawns (hotspots) so it may be that they are not included in their tables, or that they are but not yet reported. Something else to confirm.

    The locations are from the following sources, with varying levels of confidence;
    • Personal testing on Global Lab server (very high)
    • Personal catches on live server during Mysterious Fish fish 'event' (mistakenly added most likely) 10 October 2018 - 31 October 2018. (very high). Also reports from live. (very high)
    • * Reports from others during the same event (high).
    • ** Posts on KR forums (mainly InvenGlobal BDO forum in Korean) (medium/high)

There is a lot of nonsense on these forums so it truly is a pleasure when something truthful, well formatted and`helpful is posted.

Thank you Moon for coming through, one again.

    Thanks guys.

BTW if you really just want to see orange grade prize fish, I suggest somewhere like Velia Beach as they are low value but seem to me they have higher drop rate.

So nice to see them drop and small bump to catch value. Just got one with no mastery gear only passive 1.1% chance from fishing level, a Corvina fromthere after an hour afk:

Great that's really handy, shows that Albino Coelacanth could well be Kamasylvia wide prize fish. I suspect on KR they mixed up with White Grouper which is easy mistake to do. Updated.

    Thanks for the report.

    Thanks for the report.

Important for reports from Margoria where there are several zones, if players can confirm which part of Margoria ie South, Middle North etc. Can tell from fish caught and cross reference to the [Fishing] BDO - Seawater Fishing Guide. So we can be as accurate as possible.

If you could update post with this would be helpful.

Basic trick for Velia beach hotspot, is to go to bounday of Coastal Cliff to W of Velia beach and cast over into CC to get Abundat when VB is often Exhausted. Hence the Origin. The hotspot does actually go over that border a few metres.

Ahh so the area where it fades in and out of safe/not safe? I used to do that but it turned red I guess once so I didnt do that anymore, or it changed red after I noticed it.
