is there away to look down on the ship but still control and fire cannons?

holding middle mouse button down is the default setting to pan the camera without moving the ships direction.
It's a little awkward to do but does work.

 

Very interesting but as a controller user what button will do the same on a controller?

 

Settings/ interface settings/ misc. hotkeys.

Then press the currently blank tab next to "(Moving) change camera perspecive" to abutton your not using or find suitable. Not a gamepad user myself so not sure if that would cause issues with limited input buttons, but something to look into anyways.

Thanks not sure myself but I will look at it soon. I have not logged in for a few weeks due to connection issues and patch issues but I think I have it sorted out now.

Strange, when I hold W and A or D my ship turns left or right. So how does i help with moving the camera, without changing the ships direction?

 

You have to pan the camera with your mouse to face the direction you want to fire in, while holding W + A or W + D, in order to "circle" whatever you are attempting to hit with your cannons; Assuming that you are using one of improved/new ships.

 

I know how to navigate my ship.

But the question was, how to move the camera without changing the ships direction. And Andaro answered "I just hold W and A or D".
Now tell me, how is that the answer to to original question?

 

You can use with W+D or W+A to counter-steer while panning the camera, Andaro even says this in their post. Anymore passive-aggressive questions?
