Staff Response Polygons and shading issue

Discussion in 'Bugs - Archive' started by Xernicus, Oct 21, 2018.

  1. I noticed this while taking 4K screenshots while in Ultra Mode at 1080p.... oof:

I've noticed issues with and there have been past reports of visible polygons on knees, thighs, etc while the graphics are set to Remastered or higher such as https://community.blackdesertonline...glitches-in-remastered-and-ultra-mode.282246/

I found those seemed to get better with patches, but this is new and uhh... a little less subtle.
    Other polygon issue with knee:

Woop, weird. Have you tried clean installing your GPU driver using DDU?
  3. Hi Horizon, I appreciate your fast response.
Good news: Wiping the driver using DDU and using an older driver release solved some graphical issues I've had. That makes me happy!
Bad news: Wiping the driver and using older/current stable/beta drivers do not fix this particular issue.

Here are a selection of screenshots taken today while doing some investigating:
And while investigating to see whether a FS 4K screenshot bug improved (no I didn't take this screenshot at this angle lol):

As the OP was an issue while using beta drivers, the drivers installed while these scenes were rendered/displayed were the latest stable drivers from AMD (Adrenalin 18.5.1)

    Reproduction steps:
    1. Resolution set to 1080p
    2. Graphical settings at "Ultra Mode". No additional custom graphical settings are applied- in-game or driver-side.
    3. Go to Grana, near house "Grana 15"
    4. The in-game time is morning (before 12:00pm), and the sun is roughly West/Northwest
    5. At this point, kneeling should reproduce the body model polygons on knees, and potentially hips and theighs. This is visible in-game as well as in screenshot
    6. Enter cinematic mode, tilt camera roughly 5-15 degrees with character centered. Take 4K screenshot- polygons should be visible on/around the chest region in the final image*
    7. *Additional note: Set game window to "Fullscreen". Make sure 4K screenshot is selected. Repeat step 6. Angle and zoom will not match the original camera position. Polygons will be visible below breasts in-game (not screenshot specific, female characters).

Hi Xernicus, I made a post about this as well, it happens with mobs, characters and horses ( I asked many friends to confirm that it is not something with my computer), it happens while you face your character to the sunlight, the illumination shows or make the polygons more visible, if you turn off the ssao it reduce the effect in some areas but it doesnt change the fact that you can see the polygons while facing the sunlight, its annoying and I would like to this game fix it (if it's possible) :C

Any progress on solving this... or rather any interest?

As a 3D Artist, I'll tell you that this is a smoothing issue, most likely caused by BD's engine. I've extracted models and ran them through different Render APIs without issue. The most probable cause is that the model is being imported wrong or the rendering engine is screwing it up. I've seen this issue happen a few times while porting models from 3DS to Maya, somehow the smoothing groups get messed up and normals need to be erased and recalculated. However, if only some people are experiencing this issue, I doubt its an import issue and more of a render issue. I have a 1080TI with the latest drivers that works fine with my 40+ other games, so I doubt its on our end.

As a returning player, seeing this is a huge turn off and I have very little interest in playing when all of my characters look like they are from a late 90's game.

Hi FinalFox, thank you for explaining the problem in detail, because to be honest with you, I am not someone specialized in these 3D modeling problems. I would like to talk with you about this problem if you don't mind, in order to make some adjustments to the thread, in terms of to solve this problem, the last answer given by one of the GMs was that the developers are aware of it, but because they don't have an "ETA" they can't give me an exact date of when it will be resolved. answering about what you say, I can confirm that this is something that happens to everyone, 45 people kindly sent me their captures to my discord, and with that I confirmed that it is not a problem of our terminals, however many people don't lend enough interest to make this more relevant.

Currently I am planning to make a second video (speaking) explaining the problem in more detail to be able to share it and so that it reaches the ears of those who still don't notice it. That will involve the two problems, (polygons and vertical stripes that are generally more obvious when faced with the game's light).

If you are interested in helping me, send me a private message :D, have a good day !
