Anyone can answer why the forum's community of Black Desert Online is the most toxic community ever? It's even more toxic than in-game community of league of legends and yet Black Desert's in-game community is much less toxic.
Do you think that people on forums just have too much free time and decided to show whole world who is the biggest prick? Or maybe it's actually made of people that don't play the game and just try to scare off any potential new players?

It's pretty simple. Generally speaking, 70-80% of people who go to forums to express their feelings about the game are expressing and spreading negativity. This applies to every game's forum basically, not only BDO.

About scaring new players away.... It's the best thing that can happen to them. The game is not in the state to be worth playing it (not actively at least), they would quit anyway. The game for a new player is in a worse state now than it was like 1-1,5 years ago, so they would probably quit anyway, so they shouldn't waste their time.
This game is perftect in showing a false picture about itself. You think this game is awesome, so beautiful, so much content. Then you realize that there is no content in this game whatsoever, yet it still can make you believe it has. I have to say, PA did a really good job with BDO, creating a game that looks like it's filled with content, while in reality it's empty af.

Also Kakao does not respond to its community and that makes us all very salty.

Kakao don't give a damn about a thing unless it involves money such as pearl buying transaction issues.

Kakao CMs/GMs/Mods always reply to threads in the new player section but hardly ever here and if ya make a undesireable thread such as fix this fix that or ban cheaters when? the thread vanishes.

You see its a manipulative stratergy the company uses they respond to the new player section and ya will become hooked within 2 weeks playing and once ya hooked ya won't leave and will usually be posting in general section of forum.

Once ya hooked ya won't leave or stop spending and you ain't worth Kakaos time anymore because they nolonger need to do a thing for you.

Why ? There are multiple factors.

    Cancer RNG.
    • Example 1: You spend 1 month farming like crazy. You even go out of your way and invest like 500€ into artisans to "ensure" you get your enchant. After enchant session you blew all you money, artisans and have broken back up or even main gear then your guild mate Pops that PEN on 50 stacks cos he YOLO enchant = Super salt!
    • Example 2: You are a die hard fan of the game and really commited 16h per day playing like a maniac. You work hard on your PENs and all but then kakao decides to introduce P2W element in the game and now every pleb out there is running PEN gear = Salt!
    • Example 3: Some kid on reddit that you know since forever joined game 5 months ago ... he admits on using hacks and shows you his gear ... random PEN tungrades and crap on him while being ban immune for some reason. So while he afk hack you manually grind 1/20th of what he makes = Ultra salt!
    Cancer PVP:
    • Gear > skill = Ultra salt!
    • No balance at all, some classes being OP for years, others struggle for years with a clear as day underpowered performance = ultra salt!
    Cancer cash-shop:
    • Ultra expensive cash shop for us Europeans. not only NA guys on average make lot more money than us EU guys the prices are the same? 15 USD for VP equals 15€ and € is worth more than USD so not only we earn less then them ... we have to pay more = Super Salt!
    Content:
    • Delayed content for no reason = Salt
    • Frequent updates noone asked about. = Salt

Also in general (not only in this game) smart people start to back off and stopped engaging with idiots, they create their own communities with their own rules where they weed out idiots, kids, trolls quite fast. So we are left with forums / reddit where those type of people are gathered and spit out toxic behaviour without any consequences.

I don't get salty in forums, but most of these examples I have experienced at some time or another.

And yet, I can't stop playing.

A lot of the time the game punishes you for being around other people. A large portion of the game is grinding. Grinding solo has been a very prevalent/efficient thing since awakenings were introduced and people could put things like Sausans on clear full rotation. Since solo is generally more efficient for EXP and Silver generation anytime someone moves in close to your rotation and/or wants to group with you, its an immediate wave of hostility because you don't know how that person is going to react to you wanting to solo. Which causes toxicity since its competitive.

If BDO demanded people work together more often. People couldn't efficiently clear higher AP/Level grind spots without a decent group AND had plenty of grind spots so people weren't fighting over them. I imagine a lot of the toxicity would diminish. Not entirely because obviously this game has PvP and PvP breeds competitiveness which breeds toxicity. But I do think a lot of it would go away.

In comparison to a game like FFXI or FFXIV which are lauded as having really great communities, they largely encourage, demand and reward you for grouping and playing together with friends and random people.

Were mostly ppl at work reading video game forums during our break. Its hard to post much positive things other than screenshots.

The community is burnt out from those 2 years of rng and the bad execution of good ideas. The in game community seem as much toxic to be honest... Did you ever read world chat or channel chat?

The game itself is toxic. The world pvp is litteraly rubbing gear in ppl face and guild dramas. The rng gambling that feels the same as losing money at the casino.

There is also no valuable group content other than grouping at gyfin to run in circles. You solo or you gyfin ah maybe relics too.
Node war/siege is very laggy for me at least.

In Bdo everyone is your enemy except allied guilds.Everyone is competing for the best spots and the most wealth , for them big preorders.

If you think the forums are toxic at this point, you should have seen them at launch. It's like carebear-land these days in comparison.

Ultimately, this situation has nothing to do with how the game turned out to be or what Kakao has done or not done. When a game gets advertised as an OWPvP-game (be it justified or not), you attract a toxic target-audience. And the forums are were the more vocal of them go.

Games with toxic cash shops attracts P2W whales who are naturally toxic by nature.

Endless grind with very little reward
    Expensive as hell
Little reason to play with others
Open world ganking based on gear
Renown system making the strong gods while making the new/casual players just as weak as before
A greed driven money hungry developer and publisher
    Very little transparency
    Multiple pay to win aspects
    Multiple pay to progress aspects
Multiple pay to play casually aspects

Ya wonder why it's so toxic in this game, what a mystery to be solved.

As stated before, we few, we funny are just a tiny fragment of the bdo players. The salty ones come to cry, the toxic ones come to spit poison, others to amuse themselves about the two groups, but I don't think most of the bdo players ever enter our little playground here?

Ok well, so the community puts pretty much everything it has to drive away potential new players because in individual persons opinion this game is not worth playing...
Thats going to damage a good game, no matter if its BDO or any other game, in the long run. From what i can tell, compared to 1 - 1.5 years ago the game has changed, yes, but not to much to the bad side. Its a grindy korean game. PVP, since leveling and grinding has made much easier, is likely what you are refering to, is pretty much irrelevant. Most players play the game casually and not for the "pvp" aspect of the game.

And to you last phrase... well you can say that about every! other MMORPG, you can even say that about WOW the all time favorite when it comes to comparisons. At the end there is no content except the always repeating run to dungeon x for y times for better gear. Do daily quests, maybe pvp in some arenas.
Its always the same, just with a different package around it, hiding the same "no content" behind a shiny shell.

But i do agree. This community here in BDO's forum and Reddit is probably the most toxic and troll infested community i have ever seen. Not even Leagues com is that toxic (and they used to be described as the most toxic)
BDO community pretty much rushed to Rank 1 on that list and pushed Leagues community to rank 2

And yes, people can call me WhiteKnight here, because thats the only thing they can do if someone goes against their opinion. But then again Whiteknights are always considered the good Knights in Sayings and Movies and such, fighting the evil. And they win most of the time against the evil :D

It's actually a pretty simple formula.

    T = (F(p)+P)*(a^p2w)

    Where:
T = toxicity value of the player base
F(p) = Freedom quotient as a function of the total population of the host country (NA in this case)
P= total population of the game
a = amount of anonymity of the player base
p2w = the number of p2w items in the cash shop

I really don't want to take the role of the "evil". :D
For me, personally, a game is a good quality game if it can provide me 1 simple thing: daily routine.
There is no daily routine in this game.
You don't consider AFK activities as daily routine. You don't consider endless grinding daily routine.
    Daily routine is this:
Endgame dungeons(more likely different ones, cuz in a good mmo there are at least 3-4 endgame daily dungeons that are worth doing)
Daily quest routine (which are worth doing. unlike 99,9999% of the quests in bdo, cuz these r garbage.)
Daily pvp activity (either pvp quests, fortress/castle battles, etc.)
    All of this every day.
(No wonders I consider Aion one of the best MMORPGS, regardless of the P2W aspects.)

    What BDO offers:
    - Endless grind
    - Endless lifeskilling, involving AFK-activities (except for gathering cuz u cannot do that while being afk)
    - Node war (and weekly territory wars I believe that is meant for like 1% of the playerbase)

there is nothing else in this game.

However, this is the best AFK game you can find. So if you plan on playing another game actively, you can run this game full AFK mode in the background if you want to. Everybody needs and AFK game, and no1 can find a better one than BDO.
