Never happened. Games without mechanics to bring new players together with veterans are dead.

You're playing BDO, not some fan made niche game for "hardcore" players.

Allan1985, post: 2144232, member: 296934"]as a former hardcore member of tibia i have to greatly disagree for several reasons:

    A) BDO is a long journey, but is only meant to be that way so they can milk players money, they moment you introduce shortcuts in the game (aka melting costumes and all the p2w bs) all the hard earned progress losses value and becomes something completionists like me would just never even consider, devs were never interested in a real long term growth in my opinion

I will not argue against the Pay2win disaster this game has become. However, that does not mean at it's fundamental level the game was not built for nearly endless progression. The scope of this is beyond character leveling. Every life skill, CP, etc isn't really capped. That is a major difference in contrast to games where you just reach level 50 and your done.

    B) I can tell you first hand that ANY tibian player with more than lvl 500 has boted/shared acc/bought their way from 500 to whatever the point they are now (tibia is an old game and sadly it didnt evolve as technology did, as a result there were MANY boting programs and ways to exploit the game to get rich or be high level, its rumored the current and only lvl 65 of BDO so far bought her way there using boosting services, if it came to be true it would be very sad to have that kind of behaviour rewarded.

This is just a sad reflection of humanity. Every game faces this and it's why thankfully you can't even trade in BDO. If it had trading you would have bots/farmers/exploiting literally everywhere.

    C) In BDO the worth of leveliing is that you gain accuracy, nothing else, but that allows you to be in the first line of grinding if new, higher level mobs (such as star's end) are introduced, while in tibia you only gain 5/10/15 Hp (depending on your class) and a passive movement speed increase, you also lose about 1 and a half level if you die since you lose a % of your total exp (not a % of you current level exp), so in that regard BDO exp progression is much less punishing and a lil bit more rewarding than tibia

Obtaining level 60 used to unlocked important skills and so did 62 which almost no one had. Pearl Abyss gave into the casuals on this and let everyone rush to 60 and unlock every skill. The correct path would have been 63,64,65 skills.

even tho i dont think the comparison is the most fitted, i do agree with the idea you are trying to express, a game in wich your invested time is actually invested and not wasted, sadly i am afrain BDO is probably not interested in creating that type of amazing game, rather a giantic casino online that evades the UE gambling regulations as much as possible.

Except the "Tibia Door" turned out to be absolute rubbish and led to no where significant except to an island that players already knew about...

    https://www.pcgamer.com/after-12-ye...ehind-this-mmos-biggest-mystery-and-it-sucks/

Seems like something they would do to us, here in BDO...
Put in a door, that no one can pass through until they reach max level in all things... Skill, Combat, Life (ALL Life Skills) etc... and then finally... .finally, the moment of truth comes, they can step through the mysterious door, the first person to do it and....

    It takes them to Velia.....

Not successful? Clearly they were making money off it. Your definition of successful is distorted. The game is 12 years old and still running and you claim it isn't successful? #facepalm At at the time when WoW was king, it had a sizable base comparable to every other mmo trying to spring up at the time other than WoW. And after that data came out and the game refocused on the majority of their player base rather than the minority it maintained players more.

You look at the guild listing in BDO today and the vast majority are lifeskill and progression. This game has never been hardcore other than the cash grab to get gear leveled faster. Not one bit of content in this game has ever been challenging, let alone if you are geared. Quit the phony rhetoric.

    Liar.

BDO had in western at release no p2w items at all and grinding was best money income for long time meanwhile karmabombing was not possible. It was not hardcore in every meaning but hardcore enough. The fights for spots been some real brawls and took hours sometimes... you had less spots and less channels which made the PvP actually really fun.
People still crying and saying it's hard to get gear nowadays, that's nothing compared to how it was in the beginning. For me personally it was the right level of "hardcore".

None of that made it hardcore. You are calling grinding hardcore? Really? Grinding is easy. And oh bull on the fights. That was the initial buzz and people feeling out the game, it settled into what it is today within a month or two. Hardly anyone fighting over anything. It was NEVER hardcore. Get over yourself seriously.

Most people's 'fond memories' like this are fictions.

Never said grinding was hardcore... getting the spot was at some point. Idk where you played (if you played at that time at all), we had daily fights over and over again for sausan main.
The kind of progression combined with getting the needed ressources, karma system and its benefits + penalties been the right level of hardcore to me and a lot of other people.

If they left the game in that state it would have failed miserably like every other game that tried it. The sheep/wolf design will simply never work.

Well we know 2 things for a fact.
    1. It had more people during that period and people knew how it's gonna be when they bought the game, so I assume here they actually wanted that system.
    2. It got changed by now due to listening to all the carebears and killed a lot of siege guilds and game is pretty much dead outside of few node wars and sieges here and there. Lost also decent amount of players, especially active players.

That is completely false. Now you are just flat out lying.

That was solely because of a bottleneck. Once the bottleneck was gone it stopped. #facepalm

By your own logic people know the game is fully pay2win yet they buy the game. Therefore, they actually want the pay2win system?

You could sit at level 60 (.00%) and kill players for 1% exp loss across the world and never break crystals (because you simply don't equip any) and you couldn't lose exp.

Sounds like a real winning system.

I would agree with this since PVP happened so often it forced party play, dying broke your crystals so karma bombing was never a thing because people had to go repair thier gear and buy those esential crystals again. +15 BDO was the best BDO experience
class balance was also way better.

add a few dungeon zones and bosses in the world to fight over maybe give timed buffs on kill to the guild that kills it. I mean having guilds litterally camping the best spots to grind and pking you for even trying to enter was kind of fun anoying at times but fun. The MMO part of an MMO existed and people would RP all the time.

The issue is now because they have changed they system so significantly this game is no longer even close to the BDO we started with and really needs to lean on PVE but still hasnt been at all!

Imagine that level of bullying/abuse that would happen if you could kill new players for 1% exp loss today!!! It would be a griefers dream and a nightmare to everyone else. It would take Pay2win to a whole new level.

The group content might finally be on it's way with the newer areas and ideology. Pearl Abyss just needs a few extra years to figure out the basics of gaming. They started off as infants with no knowledge at all, and are slowly trying to figure things out.
